What band did you first discover and say hey thats pretty cool or good message? Perhaps your friends got  you into the scene.

My first encounter  must have been around 83' or so not sure. When an older friend was cranking his stero and out came the strange music beat and wacky lyrics, just as bunch of us neighborhood kids were gathering around to play some capture the flag ( back when kids played games after dark when there were no worries or at least not for me)  the album spinning was Meltdown from Steve Taylor.
That led me to Daniel Amos next and Servant and progressed to Stryper and Messiah Prophet and Bride and Saint. And here I am today still remembering the good ole days. Thats my story whats yours?

I remember "Calling on you" by Stryper....and "Beyond Belief" by Petra... and Sandi Patti just jumped in . I heard by neighbour playing those every morning.

We did some songs from Petra, Stryper, Bloodgood & Whitecross in the church. That's all I can say.

I had a huge metal album collection, (well, perhaps modest) of about 150-170 CD's back in the day, all secular. I worshipped the "gods of metal". Then  God had me and my youth leader smash all my albums after I decided to follow Christ.

Then, after trying to collect CDs time and time again but selling them for dope, God was showing me in many ways that music was an idol He smashed when I got rid of the first CD collection....

THEN

I actually got clean (Praise Him!) and decided I would check out some Christian metal, having heard Pillar, Day of Fire and Petra. That's when I was introduced to Demon Hunter - they're SO freaking rad. Thats what got it started for me.

Then God gave me back all of my music, including some secular stuff. As long as it's spiritual I love it and God totally gave me back my music tenfold after like five years of disillusion....

So yea theres my story.

Shalom,
Lane

It was 1985.  I was 15 years old and into the likes of Motley Crue, Dio, Kiss, etc....  Then a friend of mine let me borrow "Soldiers Under Command" by none other than Stryper.  I thought it was pretty kool.  Between my friend witnessing to me, his church praying for me, and Stryper "preaching" to me I finally gave my heart to Jesus.  I have been rockin' for the Rock ever since.

I was at summer camp and heard the cooks in the kitchen playing the Petra, More power to ya album.  The song I loved the most, and still do, is Judas Kiss.  That progressed for me into a lot of heavier (One Bad Pig, Rez) and bands like that.  As I have gotten older, I have mellowed out a little bit but still love the 80's christian rock.  That is one of the biggest reasons I love to listen to this site.

The first Christian rock band i heard was Jerusalem. I was only 3 years old when i heard "Warrior", or "Krigsman" to be exact. This was in 1984/85. All though Jerusalem was a great band, i still think that the band that really caught my interrest was Bloodgood. When i was 6 years old i heard "Anguish And Pain". Since then i have always been into fast, melodic metal.

I didn't even like music until I heard Petra / Beat the System.  It was a new release when I was in 6th or 7th grade.  I got the tape for Christmas, and wore it out.  To this day, I think those songs are very unique.  Nothing sounds like it.

Now, I think my favorite is Tourniquet.  I'm getting anxious to hear some new music soon.

It's actually kind of interesting how I've progressed through Christian music.  My first CD ever was the Newsboys Shine: the hits which was great, but then I heard about P.O.D. and bought Satalite.  At this point, I really started searching around for new bands and got to the normal current bands like pillar, skillet, etc.

Then I came across Narnia on a list of Christian metal bands and that really started my interest in heavy metal.  The reviewer on iTunes compared them to Stryper (I still have know idea why) but anyway I followed the link and thought they were cool.  Since then I have progressed further back in time to Jerusalem and I recently bought a song of Petra's first album.   I may be the only teenager in the world with a completely digital collection of 80's christian music.

Well, there was two songs, one made me think "hey this radio station is pretty cool" that song is Drowning Machine by Tourniquet and the other song that led me to listen to Reing Radio everyday was Thunder And Lightning by Darrell Mansfield, Tourniquet is my favorite metal band and Darrell Mansfield my favorite harmonica player

I have to say that I am an absolute 80's christian metal nut, I can't get enuff of it. But the bands that got me hooked were Bloodgood, Stryper, Petra, the Rez Band and White Cross oh and then there is White Heart and Holy Soldier and then I grew into One Bad Pig, Mortification, Disciple, Tourniquet. When I am in a mellowed out relaxing mood I throw in some Larry Norman. Give any Christian music as long as it aint country.

Oh yeah Shane is a huge Sandee Patti fan so props to her as well(yikes)
